After weeks of trade rumors, the Jaylen Brown era in Boston has come to an end.<\/p>\n

In a stunner, the Celtics traded Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday in exchange for Paul George, two first-round draft picks, and two second-rounders, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.<\/p>\n

According to Charania, the Celtics will receive a 2028 first-round pick that could convert from a first to a swap that is more favorable to Boston, a 2031 unprotected Philadelphia first, a 2028 second-round pick that is most favorable of Golden State\/OKC\/Milwaukee, and a 2030 second that’s most favorable of Washington\/Portland\/Phoenix.<\/p>\n

The trade did little to change the Celtics’ salary cap situation. In addition, the 36-year-old George has a trade bonus that increases his $54.1 million salary to $57.7 million.<\/p>\n

Brown, who will turn 30 in October, was drafted by the Celtics with the third overall pick in 2016 out of Cal. He was named to the All-Rookie Second Team after his debut season, earned the first of his five All-Star nods in 2021, and was named All-NBA Second Team in 2023 and 2026. Brown signed a four-year, $115 million contract extension before the 2019-20 season, and he signed a supermax extension in 2023, worth up to $303.7 million over five years — an NBA record when it was signed.<\/p>\n

With Jayson Tatum out for the majority of the 2025-26 season while recovering from Achilles surgery, Brown stepped forward as the top dog for Boston for the first time of his career. He answered that challenge by setting career highs in points (28.7), rebounds (6.9) and assists (5.1).<\/p>\n

Yet with the Celtics blowing a 3-1 lead to the seventh-seeded Sixers in the postseason, Brad Stevens and the front office clearly sought a massive shakeup on the roster this summer. That appeared to have been manifesting itself in the form of a Giannis Antetokounmpo trade, but the Bucks opted to make that deal with the Miami Heat instead of Boston.<\/p>\n

Instead, Stevens resorted to shipping Brown to the Eastern Conference rival that ended the Celtics’ season.<\/p>\n

Brown finishes his Celtics career\u00a0ranked 10th on the franchise’s all-time scoring list with 13,474 points and seventh in postseason scoring.<\/p>\n
