One week after devastating earthquakes struck Venezuela, dramatic stories of survival are continuing to emerge as rescue crews search through the rubble and South Florida organizations keep sending aid to those affected.<\/p>\n

Although the first 72 hours after a disaster are often considered the \u201cgolden window\u201d for finding survivors, rescuers are still pulling people out alive days later.<\/p>\n

New video released Monday shows the rescue of 12-year-old Carlos Gutierrez, who has family in Miami. The boy had been missing since the earthquake after his father briefly stepped out of the building where they were staying. When his father returned, the building had collapsed with Carlos still inside.<\/p>\n

Gutierrez survived five days trapped beneath the rubble before rescuers pulled him to safety.<\/p>\n

Other rescue efforts are also continuing.<\/p>\n

Video shared by El Salvador\u2019s president shows crews working to rescue a man identified as Hernan. Rescue teams spent 58 hours digging through the remains of a collapsed nine-story building, creating tunnels and providing a water line while working in conditions where the remaining structure is at risk of collapsing.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue posted video on Instagram showing members of Florida Task Force 1 working at ground zero around the clock.<\/p>\n

According to U.S. Southern Command, the team has rescued five people, including a mother and her toddler. An American who had been reported missing was also found.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor victims, the time is running out for them to be able to find them. But I know they\u2019re doing a fantastic job, and they\u2019re really representing our community well,\u201d U.S. Congressman Carlos Gim\u00e9nez said.<\/p>\n

Gim\u00e9nez made the comments while visiting the Global Empowerment Mission in Doral, where donations continue pouring in from across South Florida.<\/p>\n

\u201cWell let me say first of all that this is the kind of response that I expected from South Florida, especially the Venezuela community and also all of our communities down in South Florida,\u201d Gim\u00e9nez said.<\/p>\n

For the seventh consecutive day, people continued dropping off donations. The Global Empowerment Mission said 50 tons of aid were flown to Venezuela on Monday, and another 50-ton shipment is scheduled to depart Saturday.<\/p>\n

The organization said it has not encountered problems delivering its shipments into Venezuela. However, other organizations have faced resistance from the Venezuelan regime, including flights being diverted and prevented from landing.<\/p>\n

Gim\u00e9nez said the U.S. government is applying pressure in an effort to prevent that from happening.<\/p>\n
