Deputies fatally shot a suspect as they tried to take him into custody on an active warrant Monday in Davie, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The incident began at the Wawa gas station on Stirling Road, where Broward Sheriff’s deputies responded to arrest a man with an active warrant for fleeing and eluding, and after DNA samples tied him to a previous case, Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony said.<\/p>\n

The suspect, who was armed with a gun, ran away from law enforcement and ran to the McDonald’s across the street, where deputies attacked him in the parking lot and demanded that he drop the weapon, Tony said.<\/p>\n

The suspect then attempted to point his gun at law enforcement, which was when BSO deputies and a Plantation Police officer shot him, Tony said.<\/p>\n

The suspect died, Tony said. It’s unclear whether he fired his gun.<\/p>\n

“The officers did a remarkable job for giving him again added opportunity to not shoot engage him. A firearm in someone\u2019s hands running down the street is not only a threat to the law-enforcement officers, but it\u2019s a threat to the entire community, giving them authorization to use deadly force,” Tony said.<\/p>\n

His identity was not released, but Tony said he had multiple criminal charges, was known to flee, and had threatened suicide by cop in the past.<\/p>\n

Some officers sustained cuts, officials said.<\/p>\n
