A week after a house fire in North Lauderdale killed a 6-year-old girl and her grandmother, a vigil honoring their lives was held on Sunday.<\/p>\n

According to North Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the fire happened on June 20 in the 8000 block of Southwest Eighth Court.<\/p>\n

Neighbors had rushed to help as flames consumed the house, which had eight people inside.<\/p>\n

Neissa Dilligence was pulled out of the home, but her grandmother did not survive.<\/p>\n

The 6-year-old was then placed on a ventilator.<\/p>\n

NBC6 spoke with her family a day after the fire, who were holding onto hope as Nessia was fighting for her life in the hospital.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re just hoping and praying to God that things will change,” said Lloyd Smith, her uncle. “She\u2019s in critical condition.”<\/p>\n

But that hope turned to heartbreak two days later, when the family said she died.<\/p>\n

Flowers, candles, and balloons now marked the place where a family’s life changed forever.<\/p>\n

Loved ones on Sunday were preparing to gather for the vigil to remember Neissa and her grandmother.<\/p>\n

Those who knew Neissa said her smile was unforgettable.<\/p>\n

“She is sunshine,” said Basil Pierre, her godfather. “She\u2019s the light in the room. You can be in any kind of mood, and she will cheer you up.”<\/p>\n
