This upcoming school year, Broward County Public Schools announced its participation in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a federal program that allows schools in low-income areas to provide free breakfast and lunch for registered students without needing an application.<\/p>\n

This progression comes after the district last school year required all students to apply; otherwise, they would not be considered.<\/p>\n

141 schools in the district will follow the CEP program for the upcoming school year. Meanwhile, the other 80 schools will decide on the eligibility of students for free or reduced-price lunch through the Meal Benefits Application process.<\/p>\n

Regardless, all schools in BCPS will continue to offer free breakfast for all their students.<\/p>\n

For students attending the 80 schools who still need to apply must complete a Meal Benefits application to determine eligibility.<\/p>\n

For the 141 CEP schools, even though applications are not required, the district still recommends that families fill out an Income Survey form.<\/p>\n

Families and students who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) automatically qualify for free meals. Students who participate in Head Start, classify as a foster, homeless or a migrant, also automatically qualify for free meals.<\/p>\n

The prices for free and reduced-price lunch are as follows:<\/p>\n

Breakfast: Free for all BCPS students
Reduced-Price Lunch: $0.40
Elementary Lunch: $4.00
Middle School Lunch: $4.35
High School Lunch: $4.50<\/p>\n
