A man who’s already behind bars in the sexual battery of a student on the campus of Florida Memorial University earlier this year is facing more charges for repeatedly calling the alleged victim from jail, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Steven Rivers, 31, is facing a new charge of harassing or tampering with a victim, records showed.<\/p>\n

The alleged sexual battery happened on Jan. 25 on the FMU campus in Miami Gardens, leaving students and residents on edge and setting off a manhunt that ended in the arrest of Rivers two days later.<\/p>\n

Investigators said Rivers’ DNA matched DNA they found on the student, and he was booked into jail on charges including sexual battery and robbery by sudden snatching.<\/p>\n

He was also charged for allegedly\u00a0trying to grab a female detective\u00a0after he was taken into custody, which was also caught on camera.<\/p>\n

Rivers has been behind bars on a bond of over $500,000 since his arrest.<\/p>\n

According to a new arrest report, the alleged victim of the sex battery told authorities she had been receiving several calls from an inmate at Miami-Dade County’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.<\/p>\n

She said she received five calls on May 24, two calls on May 27, three calls on June 1, two calls on June 3, two calls on June 5, and 12 calls on June 13.<\/p>\n

The report said she recorded one call in which she was told: “We need to talk. Why aren’t you answering the phone? You see I’ve been calling you. This is Steven.”<\/p>\n

“The victim stated that she is in fear for her life, and believes that he might be getting released from jail,” the report said. “She stated that hearing his voice is now giving her flashbacks of the crime that was committed against her.”<\/p>\n

Rivers appeared in bond court Wednesday to face the new charge, where Judge Mindy Glazer told him to stay away from the alleged victim and not call her.<\/p>\n

“You call her from the jail like what’s alleged here you’re gonna face additional charges,” she said.<\/p>\n
