When it comes to sports, Raina and her fianc\u00e9 David can only agree on one thing: The New York Knicks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the one team that bonds us. He\u2019s a Jets fan. I\u2019m a Giants fan. The Knicks bring us together,\u201d Raina, who preferred not to share her last name, tells TODAY.com.<\/p>\n

Both New York transplants living in Florida, they would call each other during games when they couldn\u2019t watch them in person.<\/p>\n

It just so happens that Raina and David\u2019s wedding falls on June 13, the same day as the NBA finals\u2019 fifth game, where the Knicks\u00a0could\u00a0<\/em>win it all for the first time since 1973 during a faceoff with the San Antonio Spurs. For two Knicks super-fans, this could be \u201ceuphoric,\u201d she says \u2014 or, it could be a disaster.<\/p>\n

A wedding that falls on the same date as the NBA Finals\u2019 Game 5 raises questions of logistics and etiquette, one that other people whose parties coincide with the high-stakes matchup are also contending with.<\/p>\n

For Rachel Perlman, while watching the Knicks make a\u00a0historic and unexpected comeback during Game 4\u00a0on June 10, she had one thought: \u201cWe have to have an emergency, 12th hour meeting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her son\u2019s New Jersey bar mitzvah would now coincide with the game \u2014 and the Knicks fans coming quickly began asking for a plan.<\/p>\n

Rachel and her husband decided to lean into the mania that swept the tri-state area; they will be pitching a \u201cmassive screen\u201d at the hotel ballroom where the bar mitzvah will take place. When the party ends at 11, the ballroom will turn into a viewing party with pizza.<\/p>\n

Raina, meanwhile, is taking a different approach. Rather than leaning in to the game, she\u2019s hoping the wedding can be just that \u2014 a wedding.<\/p>\n

Her venue doesn\u2019t have the option to have a TV and, even if there were one, she wouldn\u2019t take it. \u201cI love the Knicks, but I love my husband more,\u201d she says, laughing.<\/p>\n

But it might be a challenge. Most of the wedding attendees are flying in from New York, and they\u2019re equally enthusiastic about the outcome. \u201cThe second that we knew that there was going to be a game five, I got like 15 text messages,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Leading up to Game 5, other couples have battled the NBA finals for attention, as evidenced by videos on social media showing\u00a0guests crowded\u00a0around phones.<\/p>\n

For Knicks fans, there\u2019s been an upside to incorporating the recent games, too \u2014 like\u00a0celebrations on dance floors\u00a0after wins,\u00a0father of the bride speeches-turned-chants,\u00a0themed entrances\u00a0or\u00a0slipping \u201cGo Knicks\u201d into vows.<\/p>\n

The couple is trying to get ahead of it by communicating with guests directly. \u201cMy fianc\u00e9 has already texted his groomsmen, \u201cPut your phones away during the wedding, nobody pull it out,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

During the event, she\u2019s asking the DJ to make an announcement along the lines of, \u201cWe appreciate you being present with us. Stay with us.\u201d<\/p>\n

That said, Raina\u2019s realistic: \u201cI know people are going to pull (their phones) out.\u201d After all, she\u2019s anticipating the near-irresistible pull of the game, too.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the bride. I shouldn\u2019t be focused on the game. But if I see someone, I\u2019m going to ask, \u2018What\u2019s the score?\u2019\u201d she says. If she were a guest at her own wedding, she knows what she\u2019d do. \u201cI\u2019d be going to the bathroom and checking the score,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Rayshad Talukder, meanwhile, is taking a different approach to his June 13 wedding in Chicago. He hasn\u2019t missed a single basketball finals \u2014 and he doesn\u2019t plan to now.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2018m just going to keep the game up on my phone, keep watching it. She\u2019s learned to love me for who I am. She knows that I love basketball,\u201d Talukder tells TODAY.com.<\/p>\n

Unlike Raina, Talukder isn\u2019t a Knicks fan specifically \u2014 just more of a basketball fanatic. So his emotions are less pinned to the game. \u201cI just want to see a good game,\u201d he says, adding that his friends also plan to watch.<\/p>\n

Talukder did compromise on one regard. \u201cI tried the iPad, and and my fianc\u00e9e gave me a look like she wants to kill me,\u201d he says, laughing.<\/p>\n

Wedding planner Amanda Friedman, CEO of Amanda Paige Events, says that while this particular timing feels pressing, sporting events are a perennial issue at weddings.<\/p>\n

Some couples, she says, pivot their plans by embracing the sport and hosting watch parties. Other couples don\u2019t want sports to overshadow their moment, like one whose big day fell during the Chicago Cubs\u2019 historic World Series. \u201cAbsolutely not. This is my wedding day, this is my once in a lifetime,\u201d she paraphrases.<\/p>\n

Friedman, who is planning a wedding for June 13, says the key is to strike a balance and to choose what feels aligned with the couple.<\/p>\n

For a wedding on June 13, she\u2019d advise the DJ to give updates on the score, but only if they\u2019re trending in the direction the couple wants. Or, the game can be mentioned during speeches. If the game is going to be played during cocktail hour, keep the volume off, and save the audio for the dance floor.<\/p>\n

Weddings, she says, are a balance between spontaneous moments and planning. A sporting event adds a level of risk and adventure, depending how it goes. In this case, she says a wedding planner could make a quick call.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf things are going well, it\u2019s just such a fun moment to have at your wedding day. If things are not going well…OK, we just bury that plan,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tBen Stiller, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Spike Lee, and more longtime New York Knicks fans travelled to San Antonio, Texas to attend Game 1 of the NBA Finals between the Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs. In photos from the game, the \u201cZoolander\u201d star could be seen on his feet cheering on the Knicks, who ended up beating the Spurs 105-95, and at one point clenched his fist in the air, showing off his toned muscles. Though Stiller was watching the game court side, Spike Lee, Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, Tracy Morgan, and Fat Joe were placed a few rows behind him, with Lee and Morgan in the row in front Chalamet and the rapper. While photos captured the A-list Knicks fans cheering, some shots showed them intensely watching along. Other celebrities at the first Finals game included comedians Shane Gillis, Matt McCusker, and Pete Davidson, as well as Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
