Five\u2011year\u2011old Tyler Nelson is back home and thriving after a near\u2011drowning scare over Memorial Day weekend \u2014 a moment his parents say they will never forget.<\/p>\n

Body camera video from a responding deputy shows off\u2011duty paramedics and nurses working urgently to revive the child on the pool deck of the Plunge Beach Resort. One rescuer can be seen carrying Tyler toward the ambulance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This week, Tyler met the people who brought him back to life.<\/p>\n

Lt. Jesus Fuentes of Miami\u2011Dade Fire Rescue said he and others were at the resort with their families when the emergency happened.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cAs first responders, we are used to going to these types of calls,\u201d Fuentes said. \u201cBut when it hits home, on vacation, with our families, you have to act immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n

BSO Fire Rescue paramedic Brody Espinoza began CPR while Fuentes checked repeatedly for a pulse.<\/p>\n

\u201cI continued CPR, and he checked every 15 to 20 seconds,\u201d Espinoza said. \u201cAs soon as he got a pulse back, I made sure he was breathing on his own and had a good pulse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tyler\u2019s father, Tyonne Nelson, had stepped away briefly to order food, leaving Tyler with adults while keeping an eye on his son from a distance. Then he heard shouting from the pool.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe time I\u2019m actually ordering our food, that\u2019s when I heard the noise,\u201d he said. \u201cWorst and best day of my life. Because my baby got saved \u2014 but the feeling as a father, as a parent, I am just thankful. Forever thankful.\u201d<\/p>\n

Several people at the pool called 911.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s on his back, they are giving him CPR right now \u2014 chest compressions, mouth to mouth,\u201d one caller told dispatchers.<\/p>\n

Tyler\u2019s mother, Markita Pittman\u2011Nelson, said she believes divine intervention played a role in the rescue.<\/p>\n

\u201cI know God was there because he sent some angels,\u201d she said. \u201cHe didn\u2019t just send one \u2014 he sent two nurses. He reassured that Tyler\u2019s life was going to be intact.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tyler spent just one night in the hospital before returning to his normal routine. He has since graduated from kindergarten and started swimming lessons.<\/p>\n

Experts say early swim instruction can be lifesaving. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends starting lessons around age one to reduce drowning risk.<\/p>\n
