He cast doubt on the state\u2019s election results as a federal prosecutor announced Friday on social media that \u201cmultiple election fraud investigations\u201d were underway in California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDo you think it\u2019s appropriate that they have an election and five days later, they\u2019re nowhere close to picking a winner?\u201d Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>Under California\u2019s vote-by-mail system, it often takes several days for a winner to be announced in competitive races. Ballots postmarked on or before Election Day and received within seven days after the election are eligible to be counted, according to state laws.<\/p>\n<p>When Trump said that \u201cthey\u2019re cheating on the election,\u201d Welker asked if he had evidence supporting that claim.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll I have to do is look,\u201d the president said.<\/p>\n<p>NBC News projected that Democrat Xavier Becerra will advance to the general election race for governor, but his opponent was still unclear as of Saturday. Becerra will likely face either billionaire fellow Democrat Tom Steyer or Republican Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host whom Trump has endorsed.<\/p>\n<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNBC4\u2019s Conan Nolan speaks with political veteran Mike Murhpy of the Center for the Political Future at USC, who weighs in on the remarkable finish by democrat Xavier Becerra and the sluggish process of ballot counting.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>The interview was set in a barn with a metal roof and took place before Trump appeared at a roundtable discussion devoted to the farming industry. A rainstorm pelted the roof, delaying the interview repeatedly, and a technical issue caused another interruption. Trump ended the interview about 50 minutes after sitting down, after becoming visibly frustrated during a back-and-forth over election interference and his criticism of the press.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s remarks about the nearly $1.8 billion \u201canti-weaponization\u201d fund come at a time when its fate is uncertain. On May 29, a federal judge temporarily barred the Trump administration from standing up the fund pending a lawsuit that aims to block it.<\/p>\n<p>Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche told lawmakers on June 2 that the administration was \u201cnot moving forward with the fund, period.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That seemed definitive, though the following day, when reporters asked about the status of the fund, Trump said, \u201cI\u2019ll have to ask the lawyers. I don\u2019t know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cMeet the Press\u201d interview, Trump gave a more full-throated defense of the fund, which grew out of a settlement he reached after suing the IRS over his leaked tax returns.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWell, look. If it was up to me, I\u2019d pay them the kind of money that they deserve,\u201d he said. \u201cPeople have been destroyed. Lives have been destroyed. Many suicides, think of it. They\u2019re vicious. They\u2019re violent, what they did to people. And, of course, they went after me more than anybody else. They raided Mar-a-Lago and all the other things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut people have been badly hurt,\u201d he continued. \u201cThey\u2019ve committed suicide. They\u2019ve lost their jobs. They\u2019ve lost their families. They\u2019ve lost their wives. They\u2019ve lost everything. They\u2019ve lost everything over a fake weaponization of government.\u201d<\/p>\n<div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tPresident Donald Trump spoke Monday in favor of the $1.776 billion slush fund for people who participated in the January 6 riot, declining to rule out payouts to his family or people who attacked Capitol police.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p>A total of 1,600 people were charged in connection with the Capitol attack, and 1,100 had been sentenced as the Biden administration wound down. As the transfer of power unfolded in the Capitol on Jan. 6, some protesters stormed the building armed with stun guns, bear spray, flagpoles and other implements capable of inflicting harm.<\/p>\n<p>More than 140 police officers were injured in the melee. In a news conference, Matthew Graves, who was U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia during the Biden administration, said that Jan. 6 constituted \u201clikely the largest single-day, mass assault of law enforcement officers in our nation\u2019s history.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump had promised clemency for many protesters during the campaign. On the first day of his new term, he followed through and pardoned about 1,500 people involved in the riot, including some who\u2019d attacked police.<\/p>\n<p>In the \u201cMeet the Press\u201d interview, Trump said that those who admitted guilt did so because they\u2019d been threatened with long sentences.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheypled guilty because they were frightened,\u201d he said. \u201cThey went down. They were ushered into a building. Many of them were arrested without even going into the building,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said that FBI agents had been \u201cushering them into the building.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey had FBI: \u2018Go into the building,\u2019\u201d Trump said. \u201cThose people are walking around, they\u2019re looking, \u2018Oh, isn\u2019t this nice?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When Welker said there was no evidence of that, Trump said, \u201cYou had a bunch of dirty cops and frankly, what they did was weaponization of our government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTry looking at the tapes one time,\u201d he said. \u201cLook at the tapes one time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He did not specify which tapes he had in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Video taken at the Capitol that day shows instances of rioters beating police officers and forcing their way into the Capitol through broken windows.<\/p>\n<p>One viral video showed Washington, D.C., officer Daniel Hodges being pinned in a doorway by a pro-Trump mob.<\/p>\n<p>Those running the fund would weigh the merits of individual cases, Trump said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people were destroyed by dirty cops and by weaponization.
