Four years after a teen was accidentally shot and killed in Pembroke Pines, his stepmother charged in his death was in court Wednesday to learn her fate.<\/p>\n

A sentencing hearing was held for 28-year-old Francy Marcos, who was charged in the June 11, 2022 death of 15-year-old Achilles Lopez.<\/p>\n

Marcos had pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter with a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm last week.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, she was sentenced to 10 years of probation on the manslaughter charge and five years of probation on the aggravated assault charge.<\/p>\n

She’s also not allowed to possession firearms, weapons or ammunition.<\/p>\n

Marcos cried and hugged her attorney as the judge handed down the sentence, while family members in the audience wept.<\/p>\n

“This is a tough case,” Judge Susan Alspector said.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened at a home inside the Coconut Reef community at 180th Avenue and Southwest 12th Street.<\/p>\n

Authorities said Marcos was handling a firearm inside of the home when it was unintentionally discharged, fatally shooting the boy.<\/p>\n

The teen’s sister Tyrani Lopez said he loved soccer and played on a team in Miramar.<\/p>\n
