As Caribbean American Heritage Month is being celebrated in June, South Florida is hosting several events to honor the culture of Americans with Caribbean roots. <\/p>\n

What is Caribbean American Heritage Month<\/h2>\n

Caribbean American Heritage Month is celebrated in June and was established in 2006 after congressional action and a presidential proclamation by George W. Bush recognizing the culture, heritage, and contributions of people with Caribbean ancestry.<\/p>\n

Events in South Florida <\/h2>\n

To celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month, there will be several events in Broward County <\/p>\n

On Saturday, the City of Sunrise will be hosting a free festival celebrating Caribbean culture.<\/p>\n

There will be live performances by several artists such as Rosaly Rubio, Sizwe C, Gr8ness and Salsa Ninjas, as well as a variety of food trucks that will offer attendees the opportunity to try Caribbean delights.<\/p>\n

The event starts at 5 p.m. and ends at 9:00 p.m. at City Park.<\/p>\n

Over at Fort Lauderdale Beach, there will be a two-day event starting on June 13, where attendees will have the chance to listen to live music, explore Caribbean-inspired artisan vendors, and participate in family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n

On July 13, there will be a performance by Sabor Latino and on July 14, the Green House Band will perform reggae favorites. <\/p>\n

The event starts at 9 a.m. and ends at 5 p.m. with free admission. <\/p>\n

To wrap up the month, the City of Pembroke Pines Recreation and Cultural Arts Department will be hosting a festival on June 27.<\/p>\n

The Festival will include live music featuring the rhythmic beats of the Caribbean and will include dance performances and a food court with Caribbean food and a dry goods village.<\/p>\n

Aside from musical performances, there will be “stilt dancers with West African roots who have served as spiritual protectors and cultural icons in the Virgin Islands for over 200 years.”<\/p>\n

While the event is free, seating is limited, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs. <\/p>\n
