After the body of a man was found in Lauderhill over 50 years ago, detectives were able to use modern technology to identify him.<\/p>\n

The man was identified as Robert Freese, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Monday.<\/p>\n

Deputies said that in the summer of 1975, two people who were riding their ATVs through an open field found Freese’s body on a dirt road four miles off the 4400 block of North University Drive.<\/p>\n

When Freese’s body was found, he was partially clothed and had no identification.<\/p>\n

Detectives said that Freese was probably brought to the area after he was murdered.<\/p>\n

In an effort to identify him, detectives went through missing person reports, but the case went cold for decades.<\/p>\n

\u201cSomebody\u2019s been looking for their loved one for 51 years,\u201d veteran BSO Cold Case Homicide Detective John Curcio said. \u201cAnd every holiday, they\u2019ve been looking for him, and we now know who he is. His name is Robert Freese.\u201d<\/p>\n

Curcio was then assigned to the cold case unit, and using modern technology and help from BSO\u2019s Crime Lab Latent Print Unit, he was able to find a fingerprint match.<\/p>\n

The match revealed Freese’s identity and that he was arrested for a misdemeanor in Pompano Beach months before he died.<\/p>\n

From the new information, detectives learned that Freese was born in Nassau County, New York, in 1957, and he lived near the 700 block of Northwest Sixth Street in Pompano Beach.<\/p>\n

Curcio said he submitted a subpoena to Nassau County to get information on Freese’s birth certificate and his family, but there wasn’t enough information to get his birth records.<\/p>\n

Detectives are now seeking the public’s help in finding Freese’s family or anyone who knew him.<\/p>\n
