A long standoff at an Oakland Park apartment complex on Friday night ended with a suspect in the hospital after deputies were forced to fire, authorities said.<\/p>\n

The incident began at around 6 p.m. with a report of a man armed with a knife in the 800 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

Video at the scene captured heavy law enforcement as well as SWAT teams.<\/p>\n

For several hours, deputies tried to get the man to come out of an apartment at the Racquet Club complex in Oakland Park.<\/p>\n

NBC6 spoke to residents in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cI came home from work today, and all of a sudden, I see a bunch of BSO cops piling in, and I walked over to my neighbors and asked what\u2019s going on,” Alana Pruitt said. “I guess he threatened one of the neighbors with a knife.\u201d<\/p>\n

After hours of investigators trying to coax the man out of the apartment, deputies eventually made contact with him, and a deputy opened fire.<\/p>\n

The suspect was taken out of the apartment, and crews took him to the Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.<\/p>\n

NBC6 is working to learn more information, including the man’s identity and his condition.<\/p>\n

No other injuries were reported.<\/p>\n

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation, which is standard when an officer fires their weapon.<\/p>\n
