A woman is speaking out Tuesday after police say her ex-boyfriend shot her several times outside a Coral Springs shopping plaza last month.

Mirtha Sanchez said that on April 16, she went to pick up her daughter from school and was driving in the plaza when she noticed her ex-boyfriend’s work van in the area.
“I see that his van is coming towards me like, full, high speed,” she said.
The rest was caught on video – Abdul Perez, in an orange shirt, steps out of his landscaping truck, walks up to Sanchez’s car, and shoots.
Sánchez said she was shot six times – in her arms, stomach, chest and jaw.
Perez faces several charges, including aggravated battery, possession of a firearm and attempted premeditated murder.
Sanchez said she doesn’t know why he did it.
The two were together for two years and started living together toward the end of 2025, she said. They had stopped living together two weeks before the shooting.

“April 2nd, I left. Two weeks later, no communication, no nothing, except that I saw him in that plaza that day,” Sanchez said.
Sanchez said she was a victim of domestic violence and has a message for those who may fear they are in a similar situation.
“You want to make sure you have a plan,” she said. “If you know you’re able to leave, leave, and if not, seek help before you know things turn for the worse.”
Sanchez has set up a GoFundMe to help with her medical bills. Perez’s arraignment is set for Thursday.
