Shannon Marie Dillon, 42, was taken into custody Tuesday night after the Dodge Charger was stolen from the public parking lot area of the Public Safety Building located at 2601 W. Broward Boulevard, authorities said.

St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Florida Highway Patrol troopers learned the vehicle was traveling northbound on Interstate 95, and it was found abandoned on the Gatlin Boulevard off-ramp.

A short time later, St. Lucie deputies found Dillon, who was wearing a ballistic vest with the BSO insignia on it, in a wooded area, authorities said.

Dillon was taken into custody and booked into the St. Lucie Jail on charges including grand theft of law enforcement equipment, unlawful use of a police badge or law enforcement vehicle, unlawful possession of four or fewer identification items, possession or use of drug paraphernalia, possession of a weapon or ammunition by a convicted felon, driving while license suspended, and resisting an officer without violence.

Dillon appeared before a St. Lucie judge on Wednesday. She spoke, smiled and laughed as the judge read the allegations against her, and at multiple points he asked her to pay attention.

“Please listen to me ma’am,” the judge said at one point.

“Thank you very much judge, and I will not disappoint you,” Dillon said.

The judge noted Dillon has numerous previous convictions and is already out on bond out of Broward, before he appointed her a public defender.

“You need to speak with them and tell them about any mental health issues you have,” the judge said.

“Trust me, your honor, you will not be disappointed, I’m gonna dedicate the rest of my existence, instead of saying I’d rather be non-existent, I’m gonna dedicate of getting all my parental rights terminated as of right now, I want papers drawn up…” Dillon said before she was cut off and led out of the appearance.
