Crews dispatched at around 5:14 a.m. were able to contain the flames at Parker Towers, a 20-story residential building at 3140 South Ocean Drive, to the balcony of one unit, Broward Sheriff’s Fire Rescue said.
A woman and her dog were able to evacuate the apartment, and firefighters helped an elderly resident leave their nearby unit.
“The rapid response and significant number of firefighters at the scene enabled crews to contain the fire to the balcony and prevent it from spreading to adjacent apartments,” officials said.

Less than 20 minutes after they were dispatched, firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze.
Residents on several upper floors had to evacuate temporarily, fire rescue said, but no injuries were reported.
Authorities said “intense heat” damaged portions of the ocean-facing balcony. The burned structure can be seen on drone video.
