The combined 96 points in the Bears’ 59-37 win set a league record for the most points ever scored in an opening-week game.

The Bears got things off to a good start on the offensive side of the football, scoring the most points they have ever scored in a season opener. Their 59 points are the second-most they’ve ever scored in a regular season game, trailing only the 61 they put up against the Green Bay Packers in a 1980 game.

The 552 yards of offense the Bears racked up are the third-most they’ve had in a single game since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger, and the second-most they’ve had under head coach Ben Johnson.

Caleb Williams and the Bears also made a few other bits of history, marking just the second time in franchise history the team has rushed for six touchdowns in a single game. D’Andre Swift had three of those, and Williams picked up two, marking the first time in his career he’s had multiple rushing touchdowns in a game.

Undeterred, the Panthers’ offense also put up some eye-popping numbers, as they registered 37 points in their best opening performance in several seasons.
