Elena Sexton, 41, of Texas, was arrested Saturday on a charge of child neglect with no great bodily harm, Miami-Dade jail records showed.
According to an arrest report, a witness called police around 8:50 p.m. Saturday about a boy who was found alone at Town Center Park on Collins Avenue.
The witness said the boy approached him and told him he was alone because his mother left him, adding that he was scared and hadn’t eaten since breakfast time, the report said.

The witness told police he saw the boy alone for nearly an hour, the report said.
“Officers made contact with the juvenile and he stated his mother left him to be with a friend to get food,” the report said. “In addition he was scared and did not want to leave with a stranger.”
Officers canvassed the park and didn’t find the mother or a caretaker, but later found Sexton walking back, and she was taken into custody before she was arrested and booked into jail, the report said.
