Courtney Clenney is facing a second-degree murder charge in the April 2022 death of her 27-year-old boyfriend, Christian Obumseli.

Clenney has remained jailed without bond while awaiting trial.

According to the Prieto Law Firm, a plea agreement has been reached.

“Counsel can confirm that a plea agreement has been reached in State of Florida v. Courtney Clenney, the second-degree murder case pending in Miami-Dade County,” the statement said. “The terms of the agreement are not final until accepted by the Court.”

At the hearing, the court will go over the specific terms of the agreement.

Clenney’s attorneys said that they will then have a news conference at 1 p.m.

The Case Against Clenney

The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office has described Obumseli as a victim of domestic violence, saying the couple had an extremely tempestuous and combative relationship.

Clenney’s attorneys have argued that she was the victim of an abusive relationship and stabbed Obumseli in self-defense.

“I grabbed a knife, and I said, ‘Don’t come anywhere close to me. I have absolutely no intention of using it,’” Clenney said to detectives.

Prosecutors said she murdered him, citing evidence of a history of her aggression against Obumseli as seen in videos NBC6 obtained in 2022 and 2024.

Clenney has remained in jail without bond as the case dragged on for years.

And the legal battle eventually grew beyond the murder charge.

Prosecutors accused Clenney and her parents of breaking into Obumseli’s laptop, leading to computer-related charges.

But that case took another turn when a judge found prosecutors had improperly accessed evidence that was subject to the attorney-client privilege.

“Judge Cruz found definitively that they invaded confidential communications,” Clenney’s defense attorney said.

The computer-related charges against Clenney and her parents were dropped.

Her father said the ruling was a victory for his family.

The defense later asked a judge to remove the Miami-Dade state attorney’s office from the murder case, arguing Clenney could not get a fair trial.

The state opposed that request.

Clenney, who used the name Courtney Tailor on social media, had more than 2 million Instagram followers.
