CBS placed NFL analyst Tony Romo on leave “until further notice” more than a week after he was arrested in Wisconsin on suspicion of operating while intoxicated.

The former Dallas Cowboys quarterback was arrested in Milwaukee on July 23 after police found an “open bottle of an alcoholic beverage” in his car, according to documents from the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.
Bodycam footage obtained by NBC DFW showed Romo tell a sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop that he was on his way to see his grandparents and had consumed “zero” drinks.
An arrest report stated that Romo performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was taken into custody, booked and released. Court records show he was later cited for refusing “to take test for intoxication after arrest.”
Romo has a court hearing scheduled for Sept. 21, but he is not required to appear.

The 46-year-old became CBS’s top game analyst in 2017, less than a year after he retired from playing. He made four Pro Bowl appearances during his NFL career from 2004 to 2016, spent entirely with the Cowboys.
JJ Watt will join play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson on CBS’s lead NFL team in Romo’s place, CBS said in a statement Friday.
The network said it would release the rest of its NFL on CBS roster at a later date. It will air its first NFL regular season broadcasts of the season on Sept. 13 in Week 1.
