According to Mega Millions, a single ticket in Florida matched all the numbers, claiming the 10th-largest jackpot in history and the biggest so far this year.

The winning numbers for Tuesday’s drawing were: 34, 48, 49, 59, 70, and Mega Ball 12.

The next drawing will be held on Friday, July 31, at 11 p.m. ET, with an estimated jackpot of $50 million.

How is the jackpot paid?

Winners have two options.

  • Lump-sum cash payment: This is a smaller amount than the advertised jackpot, but paid out at once. For this drawing, the cash option is $344.2 million.
  • Annual payments: The winner receives the jackpot in an initial payment followed by 29 annual payments.

Keep in mind that both options are subject to federal taxes and, depending on the state where the prize is claimed, state taxes may also apply.

What are the odds of winning?

The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 290,472,336, while the odds of winning any Mega Millions prize are 1 in 23.

How do you play Mega Millions?

Mega Millions drawings are held every Tuesday and Friday in 45 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

However, if you live in Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, or Puerto Rico, you cannot purchase Mega Millions tickets.

How do you choose the numbers?

You must select five numbers from 1 to 70 and the Mega Ball, a gold ball numbered 1 through 25. To win the jackpot, you must match all six winning numbers.

If you do not want to choose your own numbers, you can select the Easy Pick or Quick Pick option, which allows the machine to randomly choose the numbers for you.
