The warm summer weather in Florida may also come with heavy thunderstorms that can keep people temporarily out of the water, and for two people were left stranded in the water.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook reminding people of the dangers of engaging in water activities when signs of a storm are brewing.
On Monday, MCSO responded to a call about two individuals who were stranded in the water after they lost control of their vessel at Intracoastal Waterway. This led to drifting and striking a piling near the Manatee Avenue Bridge.
They were navigating a 30-foot catamaran that ended up snapping at the mast.

Marine deputies, lifeguards from Manatee County Beach Patrol and firefighters with West Manatee Fire Rescue were able to successfully rescue the two people. Only one person experienced minor head injuries.

According to the report, strong winds contributed to the crash.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission is currently investigating the incident.
“Before heading out on the water, always check the weather forecast for your entire trip—not just when you launch,” wrote MCSO. “Florida’s weather can change rapidly, and being prepared can make all the difference.”
