Miami commissioners on Thursday approved a plan to move a 121-year-old historically protected cottage in Brickell.

Billionaire Ken Griffin has spent years buying up a block of Brickell stretching from Brickell Bay Drive to Brickell Avenue.
The city owns the lot where the Jackson cottage stands, making it the last property on the block that Griffin does not own. An LLC connected with Griffin wants to buy the property from the city of Miami for about $3 million.
“We have an interest, we just want to be informed and not left in the dark,” said Elena Kasparis, a resident concerned about moving the cottage. “There has been a lot of movement, a lot of disrespect, and a lot of deals done for institutions that the public does not feel like they’ve been made aware of, or brought into, and this feels like it is another one.

During public comments at Thursday’s meeting, speakers said the current plan is to move the historic house intact to Coconut Grove. That area would become its permanent home.
While some residents continue to oppose the move over Brickell’s history and concerns about transparency, some speakers said they changed their minds after learning the details of the relocation plan and now support preserving the house through the move.
The property was built in 1905 and was the former practice and surgical center of Dr. James M. Jackson, after whom Jackson Memorial Hospital was named.
