New data shows that the migration boom in Florida is slowly dissipating with counties like Miami-Dade and Broward actually losing residents, according to a recent report.

According to the June report from the Shimberg Center for Housing Studies at the University of Florida, migration to Florida “fell sharply” in 2025, especially in high-cost communities.
This comes after a migration boom in 2022, when Florida welcomed 598,737 residents, or an average of 1,640 per day, the report said.
However, in 2025 migration fell to 201,191 people, which equated to about 551 people per day.
Particularly high-cost urban counties were the most effected by the drop. According to Shimberg, “Miami-Dade led the state in domestic outmigration in 2025, with a loss of nearly 73,000 residents to other counties and states.”

Even during the peak of migration in 2022, Miami-Dade and Broward Counties both lost residents, mostly to other Florida counties.
This comes as Shimberg said they see a trend where mid-sized counties continue to attract U.S. movers.
For example, Polk County is ranked in the top 5 counties in the U.S. for domestic in-migration every year since 2021. Pasco County ranked 2nd in highest migrant total.
Though the U.S. census doesn’t show where the latest movers are coming from, Shimberg said IRS figures show that people moving into Polk and Pasco may have mostly come from other Florida counties.
