Haaland has also become an internet sensation garnering more than 55 million followers on Instagram with his mantra. “Every morning you have two choices: Continue to sleep with your dreams or wake up and chase them”, is written on his profile.

Haaland has been breaking records all over Europe in his club career. But Haaland was not always the goal scoring machine he is now. Another Haaland came first.

The Norwegian giant’s father, Alf-Inge Haaland was a professional soccer player long before his son became the “robot” as he is nicknamed for his almost mechanical skills.

Alf-Inge had a career as a defender and midfielder for clubs like Manchester City in English football and representing his nation in the FIFA 1994 World Cup.

It’s safe to say Haaland has been following in his father’s cleats but with a twist, instead opting to use his stature to become an unstoppable goal scoring machine.

Haaland first began in the Bryne FK Youth Academy at the age of five, where he then made the first team at the age of 15. He then made his debut for Bryne FK for the second division.

Haaland then made a couple other club moves before landing in Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga where he scored a shattering 86 goals in 89 games.

This then gained the attention of English club Manchester City, giving Haaland a full circle moment tracing his father’s past career but not to follow in it, instead to pave his own path in his pursuit towards greatness.

He was signed by Manchester City in 2022, where he still remains with 162 goals in 198 matches.

Now, this Norwegian giant along with other World Cup stars, is chasing the golden boot, the award for the top goal scorer of the tournament, currently sitting at seven goals tied with Messi and Mbappé.

No matter the result, Haaland has already made history, taking Norway the furthest they’ve ever made it in this prestigious tournament.

We’ll see how much further this machine takes his country through this World Cup.
