A Miami-Dade deputy was injured after a suspect launched a firework at them during a street takeover in Northwest Miami-Dade on Sunday, deputies said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was investigating an illegal street takeover at Northwest 77th Court and 169th Street.

During their investigation, the deputy was going to take one suspect into custody when another suspect launched a live firework at them, which exploded and caused a minor burn to the deputy’s hand.

MDSO said the two suspects then fled the area in unknown vehicles.
An investigation into the incident remains active.
