An investigation is underway after a child was found dead inside a vehicle Monday outside a preschool in Plantation, fire officials said.

Plantation Police officers and paramedics responded at around 5:39 p.m. to the A World of Discovery Academy at 7025 NW 4th Street after a report of a deceased child inside a car, fire officials said.
Paramedics confirmed that the child had died, officials said. The child’s identity and age were not released.
Detectives are investigating the scene.
Administration at the A World of Discovery Academy said in a letter to parents that there was “an emergency” involving a school parent and his child.

The preschool’s assistant director told NBC6 that a father went to pick up his 18-month-old son and suddenly realized he had never actually dropped the child off earlier in the day. It became clear then that the child was left inside the car the entire time.
“This situation did not involve any school operations, students, or staff, and the campus remained entirely secure,” the letter read in part. “We understand that seeing emergency vehicles can cause concern, but we want to reiterate that your children were safe.”
The school emphasized that all students, teachers and staff were safe and unharmed.
