The Miami-Dade Animal Shelter has a simple goal to celebrate America’s 250th birthday: 250 animals out of the kennels and into loving homes.

And to make it happen, Miami-Dade Animal Services is reducing adoption fees to $2.50 from June 20 through July 5. Typically, adoption fees are $35 for cats and $65 for dogs.

“With hundreds of pets currently in our care, every adoption, foster placement, and Pawventure [a short term outing with a shelter pet] creates space and opportunity for another animal in need,” officials said in a news release.

There are currently over 800 animals waiting for forever homes in Miami-Dade. You can see them all, and filter by breed and age, here.

If you’re not ready to adopt but would like to help these animals, consider opening your home temporarily as a foster, or join the Pawventure program to take a dog out of the shelter for a day.
