Davie firefighters and police officers captured an alligator early Friday that had eluded state wildlife officials for the past two years, officials said.

Davie Fire Rescue crews had responded to a reported water main break in the 3900 block of Southwest 84th Terrace shortly after 5:15 a.m. and were told a gator was present in the water, officials said.
They were also told that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission had been trying to capture the gator for the past two years due to ongoing concerns from neighborhood residents.

The gator attempted to flee but firefighters and police were able to contain it before it could escape, officials said.

It was later turned over to the FWC, and wasn’t injured during the capture.
