The crash happened in the early morning hours of May 20 on North Ocean Drive near Hollywood Boulevard.
Hollywood Police said the driver of a BMW, who was going over 100 mph, crossed the center median and struck the officer’s patrol vehicle.
The driver took off running while the officer was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives were able to identify Artiom Echiusciu as the suspect, and learned that after fleeing on foot he took a Lyft to escape and then fled to Chicago, officials said.

On Wednesday, Echiusciu was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force in Chicago.

“We are grateful for the hard work of our detectives, Broward State Attorney’s Office, and the help from our federal partners who swiftly took Echiusciu into custody,” police said in a news release Thursday. “The officer is continuing to recover, and we appreciate the outpouring of support seen from our community.”
