The Broward County School Board voted Monday to cut 1,000 jobs, including more than 300 employees who are currently working at the school district.

The cuts are part of a reorganization plan to slim down the district to keep pace with falling enrollment. The district has lost more than 30,000 to 40,000 kids in the last 4-5 years.
Most of the cut positions were already vacant, said Broward Schools spokesperson Keyla Concepcion.
A “good chunk” of employees who were cut will work with human resources on replacement and certified employees will be placed in other roles, Concepcion said.

New roles are expected to emerge through attrition at the end of the school year, officials said.
The district is working with Career Source Broward to help workers who are not reabsorbed by the district.
