Charles Williams, 32, was accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Jaylin Conorquie. His brother, 31-year-old George Williams, is also charged in the shooting but will be tried separately.

Jurors on Friday found Charles Williams guilty of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He could be sentenced to 25 years to life.

Video that was seen in court this week showed gunfire erupting down the second-floor hallway of 2500 Inverrary Club Apartments on Feb. 13, 2024.

“Charles Williams emptied his clip when chasing after these two individuals. He does not stop shooting until he finishes his last one against the wall, and there’s no more bullets,” Assistant State Attorney Erika Hernandez said.

In the surveillance video, two men – 26-year-old Rayvone Stone and Conorquie – are seen running away. Stone survived. Conorquie died from his gunshot wounds a few blocks away. Police body-worn camera video shows officers trying to save his life.

Defense attorneys said Charles Williams fired in self-defense because Stone and Conorquie tried to rob him. The state said he planned an ambush on the two victims.

The first murder trial for Williams ended in a mistrial in January. It’s unclear what caused the jury to not be able to come to an agreement on a verdict.
