The footage released by the Broward Sheriff’s Office on Friday shows deputies responding after the vehicle ended up in the water in the 2600 block of S. Palm Aire Drive, near Palm Aire Country Club, back on May 1.

BSO Det. Robert Rutkowski, BSO Dep. Zachary Kerin and Fort Lauderdale Fire Capt. Keith Costa were the first people at the scene and quickly went into action.

They jumped into the canal and quickly reached the driver who was trapped inside as the vehicle was taking on water and sinking.

“We probably had about a minute before the vehicle went under water,” Rutkowski said in a video released by BSO.

Authorities broke a window and pulled a woman to safety after car plunged into a Pompano Beach canal on Friday, officials said.

The video shows the woman saved from the sinking vehicle as deputies on shore pulled her and the rescuers to safety.

Seconds later, the video shows the vehicle sinking into the canal.

Kerin suffered a minor injury to his hand while breaking the vehicle’s window.

“The body worn camera shows an incredible rescue,” BSO Sheriff Dr. Gregory Tony said. “It shows the difference between how tragedy and survival was measured in just seconds. The driver is alive today because of their quick actions.”
