Local officials on Thursday announced “Broward Welcomes the World,” a regional initiative designed to showcase Broward County’s culture, diversity, businesses and tourism offerings as South Florida prepares to host World Cup matches.
The campaign officially kicks off this weekend in Lauderhill with youth soccer events, cultural activities and live performances.
“It is estimated that the game in South Florida will generate approximately $1.3 billion,” said Lauderhill Vice Mayor Richard Campbell. “So of course Broward County just wants a piece of that.”
Officials also unveiled transportation plans designed to help fans avoid traffic and expensive parking costs during match days.

Broward County Transit will offer two World Cup Breeze routes for $2 each way, connecting riders from Hollywood and Plantation to stadium shuttle services. Fans with verified match tickets will also be able to take a free express bus from Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise directly to the stadium.
County leaders say the transportation options are intended to make it easier for visitors and residents to travel throughout the region while encouraging fans to spend time in Broward County.
The Broward Welcomes the World kickoff celebration is scheduled for June 6 and 7 in Lauderhill and will have youth programming, cultural experiences, community events and live entertainment, plus a matchup between a Jamaican and Haitian soccer team.
