The sights, sounds, and flavors of the Caribbean are taking over Coconut Grove as the annual Goombay Festival returns this weekend. The free community celebration kicks off Friday night with a street party along Grand Avenue, bringing live music, dancing, food vendors, and cultural performances to the heart of the Grove.

Organizers say the annual event celebrates the rich Bahamian roots of Coconut Grove while showcasing the vibrant traditions, flavors and sounds of the Caribbean.

VonCarol Kinchens-Williams is the chairwoman of the Coconut Grove Bahamian Goombay Festival.

“Goombay is all about celebrating Caribbean culture, bringing families together, and showcasing the rich history and traditions that make Coconut Grove so special,” she said.

Visitors can enjoy authentic island cuisine, live entertainment, arts and crafts vendors, and activities for all ages.

“The energy is amazing,” Kinchens-Williams said. “The music, the food, the people—there’s nothing else quite like it in South Florida.”

The festival has become a beloved tradition, highlighting the historic ties between Coconut Grove and the Bahamian community that helped shape the neighborhood’s identity.

The festivities continue Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with thousands expected to attend one of South Florida’s longest-running cultural festivals.

Admission is free, and organizers encourage attendees to come early, bring their dancing shoes, and experience a weekend filled with Caribbean culture and community spirit.
