Charles Williams, 32, is accused of shooting and killing 20-year-old Jaylin Conorquie. His brother, 31-year-old George Williams, is also charged in the shooting but will be tried separately.

Video in court showed gunfire erupting down the second-floor hallway of 2500 Inverrary Club Apartments on Feb. 13, 2024.

“Charles Williams emptied his clip when chasing after these two individuals. He does not stop shooting until he finishes his last one against the wall, and there’s no more bullets,” said Assistant State Attorney Erika Hernandez.

In the surveillance video, two men – 26-year-old Rayvone Stone and Conorquie – are seen running away. Stone survived. Conorquie died from his gunshot wounds a few blocks away. Police body-worn camera video shows officers trying to save his life.

Defense attorneys say Charles Williams fired in self-defense because Stone and Conorquie tried to rob him.

“What you don’t see is that once they go off camera, they’re pointing, pointing their guns at them, and he will show you how he ducked and dodged to get away from the dangerous side of the barrel,” said defense attorney Conrad Clifton.

Charles Williams is charged with first-degree murder. If found guilty, he faces life in prison. He is scheduled to testify in his own defense later this week.

The state is trying to prove he planned an ambush on the two victims.

“Charles Williams decided to stay in the corner hallway and wait for them to come and shoot at them,” Hernandez said.

The first murder trial for Williams ended in a mistrial in January. It’s unclear what caused the jury to not be able to come to an agreement on a verdict.
