Two people were taken to the hospital in critical condition after they were shot near an IHOP in Cutler Bay early Sunday morning, deputies said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, at around 3:56 a.m., deputies arrived in the area of 18860 S. Dixie Highway after receiving reports of a shooting.

At the scene, a man and a woman were found, and they were suffering from gunshots.

The two were taken to the hospital by fire rescue crews.

Deputies said that the man who was shot was involved in an altercation with another person, and during the incident, the suspect brandished a gun, fired it and struck the two victims.

The suspect then fled the scene.

IHOP released the following statement to NBC6:

“We are concerned about the incident that took place last night. The safety and well-being of our staff and guests is our top priority. We have fully cooperated with local authorities as they investigate the matter. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we remain committed to maintaining a safe environment for our guests and team members. Any additional questions can be directed to the Miami Police Department, as this is an ongoing investigation.”
