The incident began at around 6 p.m. with a report of a man armed with a knife in the 800 block of West Oakland Park Boulevard, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
Video at the scene captured heavy law enforcement as well as SWAT teams.
For several hours, deputies tried to get the man to come out of an apartment at the Racquet Club complex in Oakland Park.
NBC6 spoke to residents in the area.
“I came home from work today, and all of a sudden, I see a bunch of BSO cops piling in, and I walked over to my neighbors and asked what’s going on,” Alana Pruitt said. “I guess he threatened one of the neighbors with a knife.”
After hours of investigators trying to coax the man out of the apartment, deputies eventually made contact with him, and a deputy opened fire.

The suspect was taken out of the apartment, and crews took him to the Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.
NBC6 is working to learn more information, including the man’s identity and his condition.
No other injuries were reported.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation, which is standard when an officer fires their weapon.
