A teacher at a Fort Lauderdale high school was arrested after he sought an inappropriate relationship with a student, authorities said.

Basil Billings, 63, was arrested Thursday by Fort Lauderdale Police on charges of offenses against a student by an authority figure and lewd or lascivious touching of certain minors (victim 16-17), Broward jail records showed.
Online records show Billings is a reading teacher at Dillard High School.
Fort Lauderdale Police said Billings was arrested following an investigation into a series of events at Dillard High.
Billings attempted to have an inappropriate relationship with a student that included inappropriate comments, notes and physical touching, police said.

He was taken into custody at a Broward County Public Schools Administration office with the help of Broward County Schools Police and booked into jail.
Billings was expected to appear in bond court on Friday.
